Getting ready for weaning

Weaning.

It is that one thing in parenting that is a little bit terrifying. What to do, how to do it, the mess, the choking. I mean really, it's not what I would call fun. With Oscar being over five months old now, we are well on our way to the weaning stage and I feel like I have no idea where to even start. Honestly, you wouldn't believe that I already have another child that I successfully managed to get to eat!

With Zach though, he was a puree boy. I made my own food for him and then I mostly gave him jars when I could no longer be bothered to spend hours making food that he wasn't bothered about eating! Also, I went back to work and just didn't have the time.

This time it's different. I am planning on doing baby led weaning with Oscar because I think it will be easier all round. It will mean that if we are out, he can have a nibble of whatever we are having, and at home, he can join us at mealtimes. He can also just use his hands rather than me having to spend time spoon feeding him everything. It sounds easy but honestly, I have no idea where to start.

I'll probably begin with some mashed banana but when do I do things like pasta and veg? From the very beginning? After a few weeks?

When do I feed him meals? He is still exclusively breastfed so do I do it after a feed and how long after do I wait?

Do I start with breakfast for a few days and then move onto lunches and then dinners?

Arrrgh, there are so many questions that I need answers to!

So, lovely readers – I come to you. Hit me with your baby led weaning advice. Hit me with your website recommendations, your book recommendations. Send me links to your best baby friendly recipes. Any info, any knowledge you have, please, send it my way!
