From a Mother to Another – the JoJo Maman Bébé charity campaign

Do you have boxes full of your childrens clothes that you no longer need? Bags of them up in the loft awaiting a clear out? Would you like to feel good about donating to charity, giving another child those gorgeous clothes to wear? A child in need? One who may not be lucky enough to have more than one set of clothes to wear.

JoJo Maman Bébé is back with their campaign 'From a Mother to Another'. This initiative was launched in 2015 in a bid to do something about clothing waste. Did you know that nearly a third of the UK’s clothing ends up in landfill, equating to 350,000 tonnes a year. The initiative is helping those in need in the UK with distribution via food banks via the Trussel Trust whilst also helping thousands of Syrian refugees living in Lebanon.

A small boy in the refugee camp in the Bekka Valley

Laura Tenison, founder & CEO of JoJo, visited refugee camps in the Bekaa Valley on the Lebanese Syrian border late last year. As a result JoJo launched an urgent appeal to collect winter shoes and boots for the children living in tents, now under snow. Laura explained what she found when visiting the camps; “The situation is dire and the millions of women and children living in makeshift tents are in urgent need of emergency humanitarian aid to help until it is safe to travel home – just a few miles across the border. They left Syria with whatever they could carry. Their children have outgrown their clothes long ago and are often in rags. The gift of a FAMTA pack brings tears of gratitude. Children are dying from the cold, we just had to help.”

Once again, JoJo will be collecting good quality outgrown or unwanted baby and children’s clothes in sizes 0-6 years, at their 72 stores across the UK and Ireland. So how exactly can you help?

donation example

• Make up 2 or more complete outfits from your child’s little worn, nearly new or outgrown clothes in sizes 0-6 years.

• Launder and check that the clothes make a perfect outfit you would be proud to dress your own child in.

• Place in a clear plastic bag and label with size/sex/season. E.g. 0-3mths/unisex/summer.

• Deliver to a JoJo store between 2nd February and 5th March 2016.

JoJo are offering a £5 thank you gift voucher when two or more unwanted or outgrown good quality outfits are donated to store. (One voucher per customer. Valid with a £35 minimum spend).

WHAT WILL JOJO DO NEXT:

• They double check all donations and where necessary will add extra items. They will then pack into gorgeous gift bags to deliver to their partner charities for distribution.

• They cover the cost for sorting staff and all delivery costs to their charity partners.

• They cover all the shipping costs, import tax and onward distribution to the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

So come on, what are you waiting for. Wouldn't it be lovely to know that your child's outgrown clothes have gone onto to someone who really needs them, to keep them warm and safe, just like they did for yours?

And if you don't have clothes? Well you can simply nip onto Twitter and spread the word by using #mothertoanother

Whatever support you can give, I know the people at JoJo and all those children will be really thankful.
