I remember growing up and my Dad always saying that he'd love a Scalextric but with my sister and I not really being into cars, and him needing us as an excuse to have one, it never happened. The other half has also mentioned a number of times about the fact that having two boys must mean that Scalextric would come into play one day. So when I was offered the chance to review a My First Scalextric for this blog, I figured it would be a good thing for this household!
Zach was mega excited when he opened it and saw racing cars on the front and when the other half explained what it was, he wanted it out straight away!
The track is really easy to put together, the pieces just slot into place into a figure of 8, the bridges pop underneath to raise it in two places and the cars slot into the tracks – although you do have to make sure they are on properly else they won't move. It plugs into the wall mains and the remotes plug into the track. We are not sure if ours is just wired slightly wrong as the opposite colour remote works the opposite colour car so when we first set it up we thought it was broken. A switch round of the wires and all was working though so it hasn't affected the play in any way.
The My First Scalextric is a really great introduction to the Scalextric world. The cars do go really fast so it takes a bit of practice for a four year old to get the control right but Zach has picked it up really quick and is becoming an expert in how much pressure to put on the control lever. It does stil shoot off the track sometimes but hey, that's half the fun right?! He loves racing the cars round the track and it's a really good tester to see whether he'd enjoy the benefit of being able to add more track and cars at a later date – I know for sure that the other half is keen for that to happen!
We were sent the My First Scalextric for the purpose of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
