Review: Our night in with Primula dips

Being full time working parents, the other half and I spend much of our spare time with Zach. I often feel bad if I spend any time away from him of a weekend because it’s the only time that we get quality time together. As for the evenings, well, we are usually knackered and have been pretty skint since buying our house last year – we always knew the first year was going to be tough! This has all meant that really, we don’t go out very often, and if we do, it is with friends rather than just each other. Don’t get me wrong, I totally have scheduled in my head, a trip to see the new Jurassic Park next month but that will be our first night out in a very long time. Pretty sad state of affairs to be honest but hey ho…we’ll get there eventually!

Anyway, I have digressed slightly.

In lieu of this sad state of affairs, when I was contacted by a PR to ask if I would like to review a date night in pack, I couldn’t say no! The excuse to have a night in, together, some scheduled time, was fab!

When the package arrived in the post, I was a bit excited. Primarily, we were reviewing the new look range of Primula dips – but alongside these, the lovely Primula sent us a bottle of Prosecco, some Salt and Vinegar Kettle crisps and an amazon voucher. I was a little bit chuffed and looking forward to our night in!

About Primula

The company behind Primula is called Kavli (named after the founder Olav Kavli), and different to other brands, its sole purpose is to generate funds which can be used to support good causes.

The business started with cheese back in Norway in 1924 and came to the UK in 1936. In 1958 Olav Kavli passed away and left the business to his son Knut. Knut sadly had no children to take on the business and so looked for a way to ensure that its social conscience was secured for the future. He therefore decided to establish a charitable foundation which would be the sole owner and shareholder of the Kavli business. In 1962 the Alymennttige Fond was founded and had a legal duty to carry on the good works of the Kavli family by donating profits to research, culture and humanitarian projects.

Kavli now has three sites in the UK with Primula Ltd producing Primula cheese and dips in Gateshead, Castle MacLellan Foods which makes exquisite Scottish pate in Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and St Helens Farm producing the finest goat’s milk, yogurt and cheese in Yorkshire. I have no doubt that you have seen all of these in your local supermarkets!

What we thought of the dips

Well – we’d purposefully decided to have our night in on Saturday. We had a nice early dinner and so figured we could squeeze some crisps and bubbly in. When it came to it, we were still stuffed with our dinner but we opened the Prosecco, popped a film on and thought we’d see how we went (you always get peckish on the bubbly don’t you?!). Thankfully we did. After our first glass, I started to fancy some nibbles so cracked the crisps open along with a couple of the dips!

I wasn’t sure how the salt and vinegar would go down with the dips, I was a bit wary. I took my first crisp, I dipped it in the sour cream and chive and popped it in my mouth. All I can say is OH MY GOD! The other half said it at exactly the same time. It was absolutely delicious. I am a huge fan of sour cream and chive anyway but this was something else. It was so creamy and the flavours were just delicious. Considering we didn’t feel very hungry, we ate almost the whole pack of crisps and even just dipped our fingers in, it was that tasty. The next day, I let Zach have some with his breadstick and he kept coming back for more! You know it tastes good if a toddler eats it.

The other half also tried the spicy salsa one and his verdict was equally as good as the sour cream and chive! Owing to the fact that there’s only the two of us, we haven’t yet eaten them all but keep your eyes open and I’ll try and remember to tweet about them!

Is there anything we didn’t like?
No. We have previously bought other brands of dips and by far Primula are my new favourites! Seriously, my mouth is watering just thinking about them!

I would like to say a big thank you to Primula for sending our night in pack. We had a lovely night, I got to have a date night in, in my pj’s and dressing gown and when I started falling asleep on my 3rd glass of Prosecco, I could just walk upstairs and go to bed! Perfect night for me!

We were sent the night in set for the purpose of this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

We often have a bottle of wine on a Friday night for this very reason. It’s so nice to just sit and chill when neither of us have to get up for work the next morning!
