This weekend was full of birthday fun. First up it was our nephew’s 6th birthday and we had planned to go over for a visit, along with the other half’s mum and dad. We spent the morning breakfasting and getting ready, and the other half popped for a haircut before it was time for us to head off. It was Oscar’s nap time and so I was fully expecting him to fall asleep as soon as we started driving, but he didn’t – instead nodding off about 15 minutes away from their house! So when we arrived, the other half went inside with Zach and I stayed in the car with a sleeping Oscar.
He woke up after an hour and was happy so we got out and headed inside, where he was even happier. The boys have three young cousins so they all spent a few hours playing together, the adults had a chat, the other half’s dad was putting some wallpaper up, and we ate some lunch and had some cake.
At about 4.15, we headed off for home and both boys nodded off in the car. Thankfully they woke up just fine when we got home, and they went inside to watch some TV whilst we did some dinner/tidied up a bit. Once dinner was finished, it was time for a bath and bed – the day had absolutely flown by. For some reason, Zach had real trouble falling asleep and the evening was eaten into a bit. When I finally got downstairs, I did a bit of blog admin, because my head wasn’t in it for writing anything, and then we went to bed!
On Sunday, the other half was going out to meet his dad and brother for a drink and so I had the boys to myself. Zach had a morning birthday party to go to (one of his old nursery pals) and so we got ready and headed out in the car at about 10.15, leaving the other half at home to clean the rabbit out and get ready before he had to go and catch his train.
The party went on until 12.30 and was a disco/party games based one. The boys had loads of fun, although our temperamental Oscar was a bit perplexed when during a slightly different version of pass the parcel, the toy that was going round landed on him and he didn’t get a sweet. I mean, it was me that didn’t let him have a chewy sugary treat, but he was sure letting the lady know that he wasn’t impressed. Overall though they had a great time and had a good old boogie, did the limbo, the hokey cokey, and had a nibble on some chicken nuggets! It was nice to catch up with a few of the old nursery mums too!
Afterwards, I was initially going to stay in the area, but it was so cold and rank, we decided to just head home. We managed to keep Oscar awake by singing lots of noisy nursery rhymes and then when we got home, we popped him in his buggy and took him for a stroll round the block. It was blimmin freezing though and typically it took him half an hour to fall asleep. I felt terrible as I hadn’t put him in his coat because I thought he would be asleep in seconds! He nodded off eventually though, after we stopped in a less windy bit and I rocked him back and forth whilst Zach checked out some weeds!
Once he was asleep, we popped into Tesco to grab some chicken for lunch and then headed home. I made us some lunch whilst Zach started watching some Sooty upstairs, and then I joined him and after we had eaten, we had a little snuggle before Oscar woke up.
We then had a couple of hours of playtime before it would be time to think about dinner. The two of them were racing around the front room together and Zach was chucking out some dance moves to Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad’ (his current favourite song thanks to Despicable Me 3), and by this point, he was doing my head in a bit as he was in the midst of a sugar rush!
He had been asking all day if we could go out for dinner, so I phoned the pub up to see if they had a table (we have been over there before and been turned away so it’s always better to check beforehand) and they booked us in for 5.30. Once the time came round, we headed down there and had our dinner. I had a carvery whilst the boys had spag bol (and pinched food from my plate too), and I had a cheeky glass of wine as well. I felt like I really deserved it haha!
We then went home, just as Oscar was starting to look like he was going to throw a hissy fit. They had a really small play on the slide in the pub garden but it was far too cold. Oscar then decided he wanted to have a play in the front garden, so I let him have a minute or two before deciding that he simply needed to get indoors!
It was almost 7pm by that point, so they had a quick yogurt as dessert and then I got them ready for bed. The other half turned up, although the less said about that the better, as he was looking worse for wear and irritating the heck out of me!
We got the boys to bed and then headed downstairs where I sat on the laptop and the other half went out for some food before coming back, putting the snooker on and trying not to fall asleep on the sofa. Oscar then woke up so I went up to bed and that was another weekend gone in a flash!
