Our Weekend Happy – a garden centre, a May fayre, garden fun and LOTS of sunshine!

Well, what an absolutely glorious bank holiday weekend that was! Full of sunshine from start to finish and full of fun on every day.

On Saturday we had made plans to go to a garden centre not far from us. Sounds boring but this garden centre is pretty epic as it has a miniature railway, some animals, lots of lovely products for the home and lots of lovely flowers and plants for the garden. Zach was really excited about going and we were looking forward to it too.

We headed on out pretty early so that Oscar could have some fun before his nap, but he managed to briefly fall asleep in the car! We were soon there though and as soon as we got him out, he was ready for an adventure.

The first thing that had to happen of course, was a ride on the choo choo train. They both absolutely love it and to be honest, it’s pretty fun for us too.

Once the train was out of the way (along with the tears from Oscar because he didn’t want to get off!), we headed back into the shop for a little wander around and we then decided to have an early lunch (we had taken sarnies with us).

After lunch we needed to get Oscar to have a nap, so we did the slightly more boring part of choosing some plants. Zach was a bit moody by this point because it wasn’t much fun, but we managed to get a few bits and he helped us pick them.

Once Oscar was awake again, we went to have a look around the animals as we knew that would make him happy.

And after a final look round, picking up some more bits for the garden and one last go on the choo choo train, we needed to head home so that we could put dinner on.

Whilst the chicken was roasting in the oven, we headed out into the garden where the other half started work on planting and putting up our new garden features! And the boys and I popped next door so they could have a play with our neighbour Sam, and I sat and had a chat with his mum 🙂

The other half then popped in to finish dinner and we all went inside to enjoy a nice chicken salad. It was then time for the boys to have a bath and go to bed – although it once again took Oscar ages to go to sleep and I was exhausted by the end of it! I sat and watched BGT whilst trying to work – although I didn’t get much done as my brain just wasn’t in the right frame of mind!

Sunday morning came around and once again we had plans. This time it was to head to my Mum’s and go to her town’s May Fayre. Mum only moved to the area before Christmas and it’s only the second time we’ve been there since she moved in (and in fact, it was the other half’s first visit since he saw it when she was in the process of buying it!). We adore her house, and especially the garden, so we made sure we left nice and early so that we could enjoy some time there before we headed out. Again, Oscar fell asleep in the car when he wasn’t supposed to, but he was fine once we got there – mostly because of the dogs!

We had headed straight out into the garden and the boys had a good run around, exploring all the gorgeous parts of it!

It was soon time for us to head off to the fayre and we went on foot across a stunning bit of country park!

Once we were out of the park, we hit the fayre straight away – and Zach immediately wanted to do everything!

Throughout the few hours that we were there, he hooked a duck, had some soft play fun, ate a hotdog in the pub, went on the car roundabout, visited some vintage cars and wartime trucks, and turned into Spiderman. And during some of it, Oscar had a nap!

We were initially going to find somewhere to eat some dinner before heading back to mum’s house, but it turns out that where she lives, nothing is open or serving food beyond 4pm! So we decided to just head back to hers and head straight home so that we could shove some food in the oven for the boys, and order ourselves a Chinese later when they were asleep. So back across the park we went, and this time the cows were there to greet us. Not gonna lie, I was a little nervy walking with them so close by!

Once we were home, the kids were fed, bathed and put to bed, and we had our Chinese whilst watching Dunkirk. Then it was off to bed for us!

And that brings us to Bank Holiday Monday. We were initially going to go out for the day, but after two pretty exhausting days and the forecast set to be hotter than the rest, we decided to have a day at home. When we got up, I had a mini cleaning frenzy in the house and whilst I was finishing that off, the other half was slathering suntan lotion on the boys so that they could head straight out into the garden. I joined them for breakfast al fresco and then once I’d had a shower, we basically spent the whole day out there!

They had the paddling pool out, the water table, and as always, the slide and trampoline.

The other half started on the garden and then I took over when he took Oscar out for his nap. We weeded, cut back all of the wilted daffs and tulips, mowed the lawn, and put our new plants in the pots for out the front. I then attacked the front garden and weeded it completely whilst also having a natter on the phone to my sister!

Once the garden was all finished and tidy, the other half cooked dinner and we ate al fresco which was really nice. And then it was time for bed so we gave the boys a shower, had one each ourselves, and then put them to bed! And then the evening was spent writing this post whilst every now and then tending to Oscar who kept waking up.

We had such a wonderful long weekend, but it’s safe to say that we are absolutely exhausted from it!
