Our weekend happy – a wet walk, friends and good food (plus some hail!)

It feels like this weekend absolutely flew by – it is Sunday night and I feel absolutely exhausted! In fact, I not long ago put Oscar to bed and I could quite happily have just gone to sleep up there!

The weekend started with our usual Saturday morning. The other half got up with Zach whilst Oscar and I snuck in an extra half hour of sleep, and then we were all downstairs breakfasting and getting ready for the day amid some fun time!

The other half needed to get his hair cut and I needed to get Oscar to sleep so we all headed out of the house together and Zach and I continued up to the park for a walk. It didn’t exactly go to plan because Oscar decided that he didn’t want to nap at that point and instead was making all the cute noises when he saw dogs, squirrels and birds! Then it started to rain quite a lot so we dived into the cafe for shelter where I had my usual hot chocolate and the boys had a babyccino each. Oh and we shared a little pack of digestives too! I would usually share photos here but I had left my phone at home and so have no shots from our cafe jaunt in the park!

As it was still raining, we decided to just head home so we popped the blanket and raincover over Oscar (who didn’t moan thank goodness) and took a speedy walk home. Oscar fell asleep on the way and I dropped Zach off before taking an extra walk to keep Oscar asleep whilst the other half mopped the floor and made lunch. I listened to a couple of podcasts and then once I was too cold, I headed home to join them, and thankfully, Oscar stayed asleep a while longer.

The afternoon was one of tidying, play and cooking a shepherds pie before it was time for bed for them and a yummy GU dessert for us!

On Sunday we had friends coming over. They were due around 11 and the whole morning was spent getting ready with Zach regularly asking whether it was time for them to arrive every five minutes! One set arrived a bit early and then the others arrived whilst I was out walking Oscar.

We were all due to go to the pub for a carvery lunch and I met them all down there, praying that Oscar would stay asleep. He didn’t, but thankfully he was distracted enough by us all being out and it being busy, so he was generally quite happy. We all enjoyed a lovely lunch, dessert and sort of catch up (it’s always pretty impossible to have a proper catch up when there are a bunch of kids there!).

Once we were full to the brim on food, we headed up to the park to see the animals.

This was a bit of a mistake though. Whilst we were there, it was fine and lovely – a bit chilly but ok. However, on the way home, out of nowhere, this massive grey cloud formed in the sky and with it, a load of hail! We were heading home by this point and it was pretty grim, trying to escort three buggies and two older children through horrid weather. It’s safe to say that the kettle went on as soon as we all got home!

After a short while, one set of friends left to catch the train home (and got caught in another hail storm!).

And then a while after that, the other set went out into more hail and drove home.

The rest of the afternoon featured the boys playing, us trying to survive because they were both incredibly tired, the other half cleaning the rabbit out in the cold (but thankfully not hail), and us totally skipping bath time because we just couldn’t be bothered! Plus there is no school so it really doesn’t matter hehe!

We then spent the evening doing our usual computer games / work whilst watching Dancing on Ice.

And now it’s half term. Oh yay!!!

It is so weird how they have split the half terms this time – we are all done and dusted now and half the country is still having fun!

It’s always a shame about the rain – there seems to be a lot of it at the moment!

Sounds like a lovely weekend and you got some lovely pictures of you all too. The weather on Sunday was crazy here too, literally 4 seasons in one day, we didn’t know whether we were coming or going haha #ourweekendhappy

It’s just mad at the minute isn’t it? Completely changeable from one day to the next – never ever know what to wear!

We enjoyed looking out the window at the hail, much better than being out in it, but you can’t hide inside all the time and it must have been lovely to catch up with friends

It was really lovely – long overdue and the kids thought the hail was pretty fun!

Sounds like a lovely weekend honey. Despite all the hail. I adore that photo of you, Zach and Oscar. And I’m a massive fan of that Gu dessert too. Yum yum. Thanks so much for being my wonderful #ourweekendhappy host. Love you loads. Lucy xxxx
