This was the first weekend in a good few weeks that we didn’t have any plans which involved us going somewhere in particular. Whether that be meeting friends or going to wedding fayres, our packed out weekends have temporarily come to a hold – which is always quite refreshing.
With the snow melting away on Saturday morning, but it still being ludicrously cold, we knew we would be having a pretty indoorsy day. Of course, as Oscar doesn’t go to sleep inside, we still had to go out and we managed to summon up the energy (and bravery) to take a stroll up to the local park. Boy it was fresh and we weren’t really out all that long. Luckily Oscar fell asleep before we even got there (sometimes he likes to stay awake for a lot longer so he doesn’t miss out!), so we had a quick wander round the animals, visited the frozen pond and then headed home when we could no longer feel our fingers and toes. Of course, with it being wintery, it was a beautiful day for photography, despite much of the snow having melted away.
The rest of the day pretty much consisted of chilling round the house, the boys having a good play and then it was finished off with a yummy homemade lasagne!
Sunday came along quick as a flash and we did have plans. The snow had completely gone by this point, and so I felt much better about heading out in the car now it was safe again! Just up the road from us there is a big retail park which also has a soft play just across the road. The other half recently got a payrise at work which was backdated, meaning we had a bit of money to spend on ourselves – so we decided to go on a little spree and buy some much needed clothes for us and the boys!
First though, to tire Oscar out and make the day not completely boring for Zach, we went to soft play!
The boys had so much fun, we were in there for almost two hours and there was lots of running around, sliding down slides and general fun. And I of course had a cheeky hot chocolate (which wasn’t as impressive as it usually is as someone new made it!).
Before long our time was up. Oscar was well and truly ready for a nap, and so we headed on over the road to the shops.
We spent a good few hours shopping. Oscar slept for most of it and Zach moaned for most of it, but it was a success. We all came away with a few new items to add to our wardrobes and we also treated ourselves to some much needed new towels.
My absolute favourite buy though was these gorgeous dungarees for Oscar! He absolutely loves dinosaurs and was roaring at these when he saw them!
Suddenly it was 4pm, the shops were closing, and we had to get home to put the chicken in the oven.
I’d like to say that the rest of the afternoon was a pleasant one but that would be lying! Zach was exhausted and so was just being naughty. Oscar for some reason was incredibly unhappy and was having meltdown after meltdown. The other half and I ended up shouting at each other whilst I was trying to cook dinner one handed with Oscar in my arms. It was two hours of mayhem, but we managed to calm everyone down before dinner and all was ok again – until the chaos of bedtime shortly afterwards!
To say we were both a bit drained by the time we got back downstairs was an understatement. And then Oscar was awake within about 10 minutes of me leaving him!
Overall though, it was a really lovely weekend. And we know, we absolutely now know – to not ever take the children shopping with us!
