Mummascribbles meets…Shan Ellis Williams – Mam Rants and Reviews

Every week I feature an interview with a blogger, so that whether you know of them or not, you can get to know them a little better! This week we meet Shân from Shan Ellis Williams – Mam Rants and Reviews. Thanks so much for taking part Shân 🙂

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family

I’m Shân, mum to three children – Cara who’s coming up to 14, Ellis who is 10 and Gruff who’s just turned 2. We live in the wildest little pocket of North Wales between the mountains and the sea. It’s an ideal place to rear three wild beans – and they are born adventurers, just like their Mam. I’ve known my partner Iolo since we were 11, but we moved in together in 2015 and a month later I was pregnant 😂😂 G is my miracle baby. Doctors told me years ago I wouldn’t be able to have any more, but G has definitely made his place in our family unit!

What do you like doing to be you, when you are not parenting, working (if you do), or blogging?

I love travelling and local history. If I didn’t have kids I’d probably be up a mountain somewhere most days with a book, a coffee, and Spotify.

I also enjoy wine… but that’s another story 😂😂

What is your biggest achievement to date?

Overcoming all the anxiety I had when fighting for custody of my kids from my ex, and actually starting to write again.
It’s been tough sharing, as I often feel like someone is watching and judging. I’ve had to let that all go and just do what I enjoy doing – I’m a copywriter and editor. I write copy, and blogging is a new and liberating experience for me!

From your own experiences, what do you find the hardest part of parenting and what is the easiest/most rewarding part?

The hardest part is finding even ground when they’re wilful and demanding, and trying to get them to see both sides of a story. The easiest part is loving them – plenty of reassurance and cuddles.

Parenting in itself is no mean feat; how do youjuggle everything you need to in order to get everything done on a daily basis?

I’m seriously scatty so everything needs to be in my diary, or as a reminder on my phone. I find that helps a lot. And if it doesn’t really need doing I don’t do it. Hence my ironing pile..:

Why did you decide to start blogging?

To get my confidence back and find my happy place. I’ve had three years of not writing anything for me. This is my time now!

Tell me a bit about your blog?

It’s exactly what it says on the tin! I rant a bit, talk about our experiences, trips we’ve been on. Sometimes I’ll write about the kids, anxiety, what my daughter and I chat about and I review products that other women or families might find useful.

What do you want your blog to achieve and where do you hope to see it go as it grows?

At the moment it’s growing. I have regular readers and a great following on twitter, but I would love Facebook and Instagram to grow a bit more. I’d love to do collaborative and sponsored posts sooner or later, but for now I’m just happy to be writing again and posting something every day.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting a blog

Just do it. We bloggers all have a voice and we all have something different to say. That’s what makes each and every post so remarkable. Be unique. Be fabulous and be you!

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive), who would it be and why

1) Che Guevera – I love his quick wit and dry humour, and also his philosophy on socialism and democracy

2) Maya Angelou – I love this woman with my whole heart. I think she had quite a unique voice for her time

3) Ant Middleton – ok I just want to look at him…and maybe drool a bit

Tell me three random facts about you

1)  I’m scared of butterflies

2) I won a scholarship to train as a soprano in the Guildhall school of music in London but I turned it down because I’m an idiot and I was 17

3) I crashed my first car because there were flying ants in my hair 😂
