If you have no idea what #Blogtober is, it's a blogging challenge set up by Hex Mum Blog in which she has set us bloggers up with a list of prompts for each day of October. Now, I have no idea whether I am going to complete this challenge because you all know how much Oscar likes to keep me on my toes when it comes to blogging but I will try my best!
Day one's prompt is All about me so here we go!
My name is Lisa and I am a few weeks away from turning 35. I live in Hertfordshire with the other half (aka Dean) and our two beautiful children – Zachary who has just turned 5 and Oscar who has just turned 1. Dean and I have been together for 7 years now.
My education and work
After leaving school with a variety of GCSE grades, I headed off to college to study English Language, Media Studies and Film Studies. It was there that I met the other half, although it was a fair few years before we got together! We became a part of the same group of friends and the lot of us have remained friends since that time – which is now about 18 years! There are now many marriages and many children between us!
After just about scraping some grades at college, I went off to Staffordshire University where I studied Film, Television and Radio Studies for three years. It was the first time I had lived away from home!
Once I was back, I was unemployed for a short time before my then boyfriend's mum got me a job in a local Sainsbury's office as a Personnel Assistant. It was only part time but I stayed there for 6 months before I found myself a full time job up in Central London.
My first full time job was for the Institute of Physics where I worked the switchboard and did admin duties. After a couple of months, someone left in the Membership department and I applied for the job and got it. I did that role for 2 years before I found another job as a sales admin assistant for a German furniture company! However, I ended up being persuaded to go for a job as an Events Assistant within the IOP and I got it. From there, I worked my butt off to become a Conference Organiser and then went on to get a job as an Event Manager for a healthcare publishing company.
I handed my notice in to my company at the end of my second maternity leave and am now a full time blogger/stay at home mum! Currently living the dream and making the most of it!
Where I have lived
I mentioned above that I moved away to University but I have lived in many homes since I returned in 2004. At first, I moved back home and stayed there until I was 22. At that point, the flat above my now Brother-in-law's (then) shop came up for rent and as I was practically family, I got a cheap deal and moved out. It was a little two bedroom split level flat and was my perfect first home.
When he decided to shut up shop, I was left without a home and I found a flat share in East London with another girl and two guys. The girl became a really good friend and once we had got fed up with the smelly boys, we found ourselves a little flat to rent a short way away. After 6 months, she decided to move in with her boyfriend and once again, I found myself needing to find somewhere else to live!
Another flat share, with a couple and another guy (who then left and a girl moved in) and I was there for 2 years before I moved in with Dean. We rented our first flat together in East London for 3 years before we bought our lovely little two bed house in Hertfordshire which is where we are now 🙂
Other than the family you all know so much about, there are of course others. My Mum is a massive part of our lives and she looked after Zach when I returned to work when he was 10 months old. She had him 3 times a week until I went on maternity leave to have Oscar and they just have the best relationship because of it.
My Dad sadly died in 2012 when I was 7 months pregnant with Zach. He fell ill very suddenly, was very quickly diagnosed with a brain tumour and he died within three months of diagnosis. I have written a lot about him on here and I miss him every single day.
Then there is my Sister. My only sibling. We had years where we didn't really get on (you know the usual sibling bickering, nothing serious!), but as we both got older, we grew closer and closer and for many years now, she has not only been my Sister but my best friend. Back in 2002, she gave birth to my wonderful Nephew who is now a strapping 15 year old! I still remember changing his nappy and repeatedly singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to get him to sleep like it was yesterday!
I have had a number of animals over the years! When I was about 4, we got our first dog called Cassie. She was a Rough Collie and we sadly had to have her put to sleep when I was 18. I also had two rabbits when I was younger, although they ended up fighting quite badly so we had to send one back so I ended up with just one. Then there was the hamster Charlie who was a viscious little thing! Oh I think I had another little hamster when I lived at home too – a tiny little russian dwarf one whose name completely bypasses me!
Once I had moved out, I got another little hamster to keep me company. I don't know why I got hamsters to be honest because they are such nippy little things that I really hate handling them!
And then, my Millie Moo came along. My gorgeous kitty. I was up visiting my then boyfriend at the time (he lived in Liverpool!) and his Dad's cat had given birth to two kittens, one of which was Millie. I fell instantly in love and agreed that I would find a place to live that allowed cats and a few months later, took her home. She was just the most gorgeous little thing but she fell really ill when she was still so young and I had to make the very hard decision to have her put to sleep. Zach still mentions her sometimes and I always miss having her around.
Right now we have some tropical fish and our rabbit Magic. He had a Sister called Coco but she died very suddenly about a year ago. We rehomed them from a friend of my Sister's.
We would love to get a dog but now is not the right time for us. Hopefully one day we'll have a woofer in the house!
And there you have it. That is all about me.
