It's still ok to reminisce on the summer right? Because today's #Blogtober topic is ice creams and well, I have to say that ice creams featured heavily in our summer!
I am not usually such a sucker for them. Don't get me wrong, I really like them and quite often you will see Mint Magnums in our freezer. I should also probably confess that we always have mint Vienetta in the house. And I mean always. I blimming love the stuff and we have it for dessert in the evenings a couple of times a week!
But, the Summer gone by and the many ice creams…
It's the first Summer that I have not been working and with it being the last Summer before Zach started school, I wanted to make the most of our days together. There is a park not far from us that has a mini zoo (I'm talking Meerkats, Skunks, Owls and Birds although it is expanding), a gorgeous lake, lots and lots of space to run free or cycle a bike, and a little cafe. And it is in the little cafe where ice cream is served!
They have the bog standard freezer full of ice creams like Feast's, Calippo's etc, and then they have an actual scooping ice cream section for cones. Not being a big lover of cones, I always opt for the standard freezer but I have tried the scoop ones (and thrown away the cones) and they really are delicious.
This Summer, Zach, Oscar and I spent a lot of time at this park. If the weather looked like it was going to be nice, we would pack up a picnic (which mostly meant popping to Sainsbury's first and grabbing some bits that were easily eatable), and heading on up there. We would play frisbee. We would play football. We would let Oscar have a crawl around. and we would make use of all parts of the park, using it to walk round and get Oscar asleep so we could have even more fun.
And we ate ice cream! Usually whilst Oscar was asleep or chilling in his pushchair!
It was our special time. Our naughty treat that he wasn't allowed!
And boy did we enjoy it.
At the beginning, I restricted Zach to Mini Milk's but by the end, I allowed him Fruit Shoot ones and Twister's! And even Oscar had a little bit of my Twister too.
It was just our special thing to do and Zach would always tell Daddy about our ice cream adventures.
And sometimes, just sometimes, we allowed him to come too!
