How you can be a stay-at-home mum & build a successful career

When you become a Mum, your whole world changes. The things that used to be important to you now don’t seem to matter as much, it’s all about your kids and ensuring that they have the very best lives possible. Of course, just because you want to give your kids the most amazing experiences, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have your own career and your own life.

There’s a common misconception that being a parent means having to give up on your own dreams when actually that isn’t the case. Of course, if you want to be a stay-at-home mum, how you choose to do that will have to be different to the traditional route, but you can still achieve you career goals at the same time.

Here are some tips, ideas and suggestions of ways you can be a stay-at-home mum (or dad) and still achieve career success.

 

Study remotely

Do you aspire to work in an industry where you cannot gain the experience that you need without education? If this is the case, don’t let it put you off of going for the career that you want to achieve, as you can easily meet your goals by choosing to study remotely. Although it will be hard work – studying remotely – it’s important to understand that it is possible.

Whether you want to become a nurse and undertake one of many online MSN programs or whether you want to work in childcare and take an online degree, you can do. The internet has made anything possible when it comes to your career – it’s just a case of taking advantage of the tools available to you.

 

Build a home business

Another option is to open your own home based business. Have you always dreamed of running your own business? If so, then perhaps you might like to launch a business while you are at home with your children.  Just think, you’ll be your own boss, which means that you can set your own hours and work as and when you want to.

Whether it’s a business selling homemade products such as birthday cakes or crocheted pieces, or it’s a service-based business where you offer a service like VA’ing, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you’re doing something to help boost your career and get you to where you want to be.

 

Find an employer who you can work for from home

If you are keen to work in an employed position, perhaps it could be a good idea to see if you can find an employer who contracts team members to work from home. You might think that this kind of employer is an urban myth but they do exist, it’s just a case of taking the time to find them, that’s all.

 

Believe it or not, you can be a stay-at-home mum and build a successful career, it’s just a case of knowing what it takes to manage being a full-time parent and build a career at the same time.
