24 weeks pregnant – baby number two

Today I am 24 weeks pregnant.

This week is technically classed as 'V Day' – that means that from this point onwards, if baby decides to come very early, the doctors will do everything they can to keep him alive. It's funny because it's quite a landmark date in pregnancy but at the same time, there is no way I want bubs to come anytime soon. He is still busy growing, developing his organs, getting ready to be big and strong and ready for the onslaught from his big brother! It is still quite an important date though of course!

I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable now. It's mainly in the afternoon when I've had my lunch and I'm sat at my desk, the bump is stretched and feels squashed in between my boobs and lower body! He also likes to have a right old kick about when I've just eaten which can be extremely uncomfortable after three tasty fajitas!

He's getting really active now and I'm noticing a really similar pattern to Zach's movements. He likes to have a couple of days of lots of movements and then a day of rest. Zach was exactly the same! He tends to be at his most active at night as I'm going to bed and first thing in the morning. I am hoping that this isn't a sign that he's a night owl AND an early bird. I love feeling those kicks though and he feels so strong already. I can see my belly moving and juddering around and the other half has had his fair share of kicks now too. It's such a wonderful feeling even though it does sometimes make me jerk in shock!

I have my 25 week midwife appointment booked in for next Friday and Zach will be coming with me so I'm really excited about that and for him to hear baby's heartbeat. I've been telling him that baby can now hear him and so he's been talking to him through my tummy, asking if he is coming yet and asking me if he's talking back to him. It's just so cute. He is still fascinated with my growing tummy and often kisses and cuddles it without me even mentioning it. Most of the kisses come when I pick him up at the end of the day, it's like he's missed me and his unborn baby brother and it makes my heart melt.

I wrote yesterday about how we are having a few struggles with Zach at the moment but it's these beautiful times when he is just delicious and makes me think what a wonderful brother he will be.

I am now starting to really think about when to finish for maternity leave. I was hoping to use all of my holiday beforehand but my stupid company do it pro rata which means I have less to use before but then more to add at the end. Last time round I worked up until 2 weeks before my due date and those two weeks were annual leave! This time, I don't think I am going to make it that long because I am far more knackered. So I am thinking of starting my maternity leave on the 1st September and then I should have enough holiday to take another two weeks before that, so finishing on the 18th August. I just need to confirm it in writing really as I think I have pretty much decided that's what I am going to do. That'll give me a month until baby is due and some time with my boy before the newest one arrives.

We are pretty much sorted in terms of clothes for baby boy because we have everything up in the loft from Zach and as they are both sharing the same birth month (hopefully!), it should all be pretty valuable to us second time around! I have however bought a couple of pairs of dungarees that I couldn't resist.

Also, the lovely people at JoJo Maman Bebe sent me some gorgeous bits too! We do still need to get a new pram though so that is top of the list along with a couple of other bits!

Well, I think that's pretty much it for this pregnancy round up. I'll see you at the next one!
